Tasveer South Asian Film Festival (TSAFF) is the largest South Asian film festival in the United States. Seeking to provide a counterpoint to the stereotypical images and stories prevalent in mainstream media, the festival strives to create an atmosphere of thoughtful dialogue and creative inquiry, where filmmakers and audiences engage in lively discussions, forums, and other collaborative interactive formats, all while watching some of the year’s best independent films coming out of South Asian and the diaspora.

TSAFF brings to Seattle the year’s best independent films, as well as both established and emerging South Asian filmmakers from around the globe. Films presented include shorts, experimental work, documentaries, and narratives features on themes related to South Asia and the diaspora. TSAFF screens thought-provoking films on issues of social, economical, and/or political justice. We define South Asia as the region that includes Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Tibet and these countries’ diasporas across the world.

In 2018, the 13th year of the, we screened over 65 films and welcomed more than 5000 attendees over 11 days, in six cities in the Greater Seattle area. 13th TSAFF was attended by filmmakers from India, Pakistan, UK, New York, Los Angeles, and Seattle.

The 14th Tasveer South Asian Film Festival, #TSAFF2019, will take place on September 26 – October 6, 2019. Mark your calendar now for this highly anticipated festival. The focus country of this year festival is India.

Tasveer is a Seattle-based non-profit organization, with the mission to inspire social change through thought-provoking film and arts.

In addition to managing the organization’s daily operations, she oversees the Tasveer South Asian Film Festival and Aaina: South Asian Women’s Festival every year. Rita has received awards from the Seattle Globalist (2015) and has been named a Rising Star (NW Asian Weekly, 2015), and Community Voice (International Examiner, 2017).
